I use the same leather for the welt. I save scraps and try and cut them from those. Just be sure and match the thickness, sometimes it looks kind of wonky with a different thickness in the middle.

What are you using for light? That pic seems kind of dark. I'm asking because my pics are horrible, I need to figure out how to take better pics.

I mostly give away knives at this point. Gifts mostly, and some guys that absolutely love knives. When I have one that comes out extra nice, with a nice handle material, those get sold if possible. I'm getting there. It would be nice to sell more, but I'll get there soon. Meanwhile I'm trying...
