    Thanks Ken. No the steel is not San Mai its 15n20. I made it look like San Mai with Ferric Cloride. I guess it’s a poor mans San Mai lol

    Here is a hunter I just finished. AEBL with walnut and maple handle. My first try At a hollow Grind on a 10” wheel. Had four cracks in the edge. Not sure why. I think I got the edge to thin but it cut great.

    Would like to play with San Mi in the future but for these two kitchen knives I saved some money lol For the wife For my daughter who loves different I am a new maker. These were my 8 and 9 knife. Having fun but spending way to much money lol sorry for the big pictures.

    Yes Larry’s article you linked was a good read. Helped me to appreciate what happens during the quench and which oil to use. Also NJSB in its suggested HT suggests which oil to use (#50 or AAA) while another site I buy steel from only mentions “Quench in oil”. Thanks for your helpful replie.

    Where can I find good read about quenching oils? When I say good I mean One of those kind for dummies lol. If it takes a hour or hour and a half for your HT oven to cool down temperatures does that cause to much stress on the blade waiting that long?

    Thanks Kevin that is very helpful. I won’t be able to get two five gal containers but I will get both. I have read several that use #50 for most of those steels..
