    D-2 heat treat

Gene, hope this can help. The way that I do my foil, is to cut a large enough piece to get a double fold or seal around all edges while not crimping it so close to the blade that you puncture it with the point or other sharp edge, when the foil is cut then I make an envelope by folding in half...

    Cpm154 ?

I am about to make some knives using CPM154, and looking at the Crucible data sheet on it, they say quench in oil or positive pressure of 4 bar minimum, or salt quench to 1000 then air cool to below 125. My question is, does anyone plate quench CPM154? how does it work with plate quenching? If...

    beginner steel

If you send out for heat treat, just about any steel normally used for knives would be a good choice, A2 would be an excellent choice for a hunter, EDC, skinner, when heat treated properly it takes a very good edge and holds it very well, but you can't go wrong with good old O1 either. For good...

    Pin material ID?

I ordered some 416 stainless pin stock, and also some NS pin stock all in the same sizes and quanity. It was shipped all in the same sack, with no ID tags. How do you tell whitch is the stainless and whitch one is NS. I tried grinding each, filing each, and cutting with cutters, all seem soft, I...

    Steel thickness and flexibility?

I have made several fillet knives from 1/16" 440C, and yes warpage is a problem, my next 2 will be profiled and drilled, then heat treat, then grind the bevels. As far as the heat treat, I treat just like any other knife made from 440C, and they have good flex. As Josh said, grinding that thin...

    oak?

While cutting wood from log tops this fall, all Oak, we came across some very nice spalted pieces, that I saved from the furnace, it is in the shop drying out good before cutting up into blocks, I also cut a Black Jack Oak burl off of a tree to see what it looks like, it had a nice redish color...

Wood handles in the Kitchen - what finish?

Your best bet would be either stabilized wood or Dymondwood. Dymondwood holds up very well, the only problem is getting it in undyed woods that look like wood, the Oak and Cocobolo, and Walnut look nice to me. Also Tru Oil gunstock finish does pretty good, as long as you hand dry them after hand...

    Avoiding legal problems

How much protection from a lawsuit does an LLC really offer you? I have been looking at forming an LLC for my knife business, and have heard that it prety much protects your personal things completely if you get sued, then others have said not so much. Is an attorney the only way to find out for...
