    My first coffin handle WIP.

Thank you gentlemen. One day, it's my sincere hope that I won't have to use lighting and angles to hide the flaws in my work! I'm a long long way from pink lunchbox status, but I'm trying.

    My first coffin handle WIP.

Thank you. Working with leaf springs is a bit of a challenge and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone that doesn't have a side-angle grinder.

    My 2nd and 3rd knives

Very nice work. How'd you do that filework? I'd really like to try that, but I'm scared I might ruin an otherwise fine knife.....

    My first coffin handle WIP.

I finally got off the procrastination kick and knuckled down to meet the deadline. A few design changes and some other ideas, and this is what popped out. Started out as a bit of leaf spring that I had to sand and file almost to half the original thickness. Then to the files to...

    antler dyeing

Care to trade for some? I have a good number of southern whitetail antlers, but not much worth a knife handle, imo. I wouldn't be interested in any that are fresh from your wazoo, but... As for dying, I'd have to think that you could do it on your own with some dye. I regularly soak...

    Second knife (kind of) complete

Very nice design. I actually have an almost-identical design on the workbench. It's amazing how that happens! I think you did great on the execution. The grind looks very neat and clean, and I like that choice of wood - I haven't seen it used before, but it's quite attractive.

    Woolly mammoth bone

Very nice design and execution. How did you treat the birch bark so it won't rot away? Did you blue the blade or some other patina? Overall, it's a win all around. That's one of the best looking knives I've seen!

    What artificial ivory?

How do the different types work? I note that Texas Knife lists one as "best quality" but what does that mean compared to other brands? Anything different about synthetic ivory compared to working with micarta or wood?

    What artificial ivory?

I've got a new blade in mind (the Muses speak!) and would like to do a handle and sheath in synthetic ivory. I'm looking for something that has a nice grain and a bit of an aged look. Someone recommended white paper micarta, but I'm worried about the paper picking up stains with handling...

    First Knife

Looks very nice. I like how you used the wenge to make a spacer. For a first knife, it looks very very good. Excellent design and a solid execution. Future knives will be better, but you're off to a great start. Congratulations.

My First (Not even done yet)

Reb, you're on the right track, but I think Squaw is on the money when he advises you to go simple first. A complex shape is time-consuming and very frustrating, and the odds of a goof are high. What's the gain? For me, a knife is a utilitarian tool and should function comfortably in all...

    1911 picture thread

Used to have a KelTec P3AT, a two-finger gun if ever there was, but could never find any .380 practice ammo that was reliable. The better grades of fighting ammo did alright, but nothing to write home about, but the practice stuff was garbage. Still, any excuse to buy another pistol..... :D

    Portable photo tent set up

Amazon has similar, though more expensive setups. Not a bad idea, at all, and I can see one coming my way next payday! I love doing close-up photos... Amazon.com: Sunpak 620-EBOX Portable Mini Studio in a Box: Camera & Photo

My First (Not even done yet)

How long is it? What are you thinking about for handle scales? As is, I think it's coming along swimmingly. It's amazing how rough a knife can look at this stage and still end up looking really professional when done. The key is to take your time and do more hand sanding than you would...

    #4 and my first sale!

Very nice design, clean lines, good handle shape, and well finished. You're not my friend anymore! :(

    1911 picture thread

Still cool, though. I've always regretted not getting a Colt Pony or Mustang. IMO, the best pocket pistol would be a scaled-down 1911 in 9mm Parabellum, holding 10+ rounds, with tritium up front and a grip long enough that my pinky doesn't dangle.

Getting a blank perfectly flat for profiling

What I've done in the past, is to pound it as flat as possible while it's hot, and then use a side grinder to remove the high spots. All of the springs I've come across have been way too thick for a blade, so you have a lot of room to work. I have a stockpile of 1/4" springs that usually end...

    GIANT SANDING BELTS

Well, I'd certainly be interested in any more you might end up with. Whole or sliced, I'll find a use for all that sandpaper in my shop - promise!! Shipping and time, compensated for, obviously.

Marriage Knives, A WIP for some good folks.

So, haven't been getting into the shop like I would like to have, but... An hour this afternoon and I got the bevels done. I'm learning to use a 2x72 grinder that dad and I made, so it's taking a bit more time than I had thought because I don't want to ruin the metal. But it sure is faster...
