    2 brick forge

I tried it for some of that time with the 3rd firebrick blocking the back hole with this same theory in mind.....however, when it wasn't heating up as fast as I would have thought it should, I removed it. a Few minutes after that is when I noticed it finally getting the steel to turn color...

    2 brick forge

I ordered a used benzomatic ts4000 on ebay, $15. Another member graciously donated 3 firebricks to the cause. Another $15 in brackets and such and my forge build is on it's way. I used a 2" pvc pipe and sandpaper to create the hole and drilled out a hole. I drilled an angled hole for the...

    Cant get a satin finish...

I've been practicing my hand sanding as well recently. I think the biggest problem I encountered was getting lazy toward the finish. You spend all this time going up trough a few grits, checking, sanding some more, trying to get that last scratch out....by the time I got to what should be the...

Soft fire bricks in the Dallas area?

Question: What's the best way of cutting a 1" half hole (to make a 2 inch whole when they're stacked) in each of these for the main chamber? at first I figured I would put them together and use a 2 inch hole saw with the drill press right down the middle. Then I realized not only is the hole...

1x30 Variable Speed Grinder - Treadmill - WIP

I've been using a 1x30 for years now with no real intention of getting anything bigger until I'm doing enough knives a year to warrant it, win the lotta, a rich uncle in didn't know about dies, and/or one magically appears at my house. Maybe the monkey's that flew outta my butt will return with...

Soft fire bricks in the Dallas area?

nother question if anyone has the time. The hole at the front top of the 2 brick forge for the torch to be inserted so that the flame isn't directly on but creates the swirl inside the brick seems to be the standard. Does this have to be at the front? or does it work better at the back...

    Rust!!!!!!! Arghhhh!!!!!!!!

i'm on this like a rat on a Cheeto. I can't wait to see your results. They don't look too bad so far, even the bare 1095 looks pretty decent for 9 days outside. My new little belt knife took a trip from Texas to Mississippi this past Sunday, on my belt sheath, in a car with no AC. The...

finally joined the dark side...er..maybe it's the light side, i dont' know...

I never thought about it really....just hold it the same a larger one and keep your knuckles out of the death zone. It certainly is much quicker to grind something like this. I figure including HT and overnight handle epoxy, it wouldn't be hard to get one of these done in a weekend. I've...

It's hard not to....I'll make him one just like it though! With my current ht methods, I'm sticking with 1084. I've had good results with 1095, but I don't want to push it.

finally joined the dark side...er..maybe it's the light side, i dont' know...

I made this for myself and as soon as I posted a pic of it on facebook this morning I got several, "tell me how much, i want it" 's. For a while now i've been needing to make myself something to carry. I get asked, as I'm sure you do, "do you have one on you that I can see?" So I took a...

    Rust!!!!!!! Arghhhh!!!!!!!!

As for your test, I'm pretty sure if you coat a blade real well with wax, unless you do something to scratch it off, it not going to rust. Moisture shouldn't get through it, but I can't wait to see your results none the less.

one done for Blade show 12" OAL in CPM154

That's nuts! As if learning to get the fit and finish isn't hard enough without getting all crazy with bolsters... why you wanna go and make this even harder for us? That's one of the most unique things I've seen. Very cool and well done.
