    My efforts to date

Ok, got another one finished out, pre made 154CM blade from Jantz, with red and black Dymondwood (everyone Loooves the red and black) also, I got a light box! Huge difference in quality (and these are my first attempts at pictures, still using the iPhone camera)

    My efforts to date

Derek, first words out of my wife;'s mouth when she saw the pictures "we have GOT to get you a light box!" LOL :) Also, I need to start using my Canon DSLR and not my iPhone to take the pictures :p Thanks for the kind words all :) It means a LOT :)

    My efforts to date

hand sanded up to 1500 grit, then a liquid wax, and then buffed with a 0000 steel wool. It was surprisingly "grippy" afterwards too, I was expecting it to be too slick, but I wanted it shiny for the "presentation" when I gave it to my brother in law.

    My efforts to date

The second knife was a bit more ambitious. It's the Model 31 Jantz pattern, with a stainless bolster, stainless pins and thong hole, mosaic pin and desert camo Kirinite handles (with red and black liners). All in all, I'm happy with it, although it still needs some more sanding/buffing...

    My efforts to date

So my first two knives are pre made blades (2nd one bought from Jantz (their American made ones) and first one from Texas Knifemakers supply) which I finished out. Both then given away as gifts, but a friend of my moms loved the first one so much he's paying me to do one for him. Here's the...

    Brandon Miller Knife Maker Extraordinaire!!!

Very cool! Thanks for posting that! I've been considering a 2x42 myself (I've got a HF 4x36, it's pretty much impossible to do a decent edge grind with it, well a decent plunge line anyway, the belt wobbles some, and the platen goes way past the edge of the belt). Why is the tile messing you...

    Brandon Miller Knife Maker Extraordinaire!!!

Really amazing progress! :) are you doing the plunge lines and edge grinds with the grinder? (and what kind of grinder are you using?) or are you doing it by hand with a file?

    Sales question

Thanks Laurence! The reason I mentioned Jantz specifically was because they have a much larger selection of blades made here in the US, which is important to me. I've made a couple of orders from Midwest, and have been very pleased (In fact Im currently doing up a knife for a buddy's birthday...

    Sales question

Thanks Frank! The words of wisdom are much appreciated! :) I don't have to earn the entire amount for a "good" grinder, just enough to justify buying one :)

    Sales question

Ok, im not really having much luck with the edge grinding thing, using the 4x36 Harbor Freight sander, so I was thinking about just concentrating on making some handles on some premade blades (in particular the ones Jantz makes here in the US). This is what I did for my brother in laws...

    Starting with the Basics :)

And the finished result... I hesitate to call it my first knife, as I bought the blade... But it's my first handle ;) lol

    Starting with the Basics :)

Ok, so I wanted to give my brother in law a knife this year, but I ran out of time (and I still can't grind a decent edge). So cheated and bought a finished blade from Texas Knife Makers supply (they are local for me). It's 7 3/4" with a 3 3/4" blade. Black and red layered Dymondwood handle. I...

    2013 Knife Making Progress

What part of Houston are you in Steven? I'm on the NW side (Cypress/Tomball area). Maybe one of these days I could buy you a beer and pick your brain? :) Went back to the very first post again, and my first edge grind has some things in common with your third, so looking at how quickly you...

    2013 Knife Making Progress

Really nice one there! Also, I was just trying to figure something out on shaping a handle and that close up you posted there really helped me out! :) Amazing work and amazing progress!

    Starting with the Basics :)

Ok, life has been less than cooperative lately. Seems like it's one thing after another, so shop time has been extremely limited. Planning on making some changes though that should help :) This is what I've managed to create so far. The top one was first, came out a tad smaller than I wanted...

    Hello from Texas

LOL sounds like a plan... My first attempt at grinding an edge wasn't a stunning success so I'm building my collection as well :)
