What's going on in your shop?

My most recent homemade fixture. I got some shields and a template from BossDog almost a year ago and finally got around to giving it a try. My first practice piece I didn't get deep enough, but after that they are turning out pretty good. This homemade handle material is also a first. I call...

    First slipjoint..

Good job. It looks better than my first one. I still use old stainless door kick plates for practice liners sometimes if I am unsure about my handle design. Nothing wrong with working with what you have. I bet it didn't take long to figure out how long your scales needed to be. You...

Bend in the middle, lock in the back

You did a great job on it, Travis. I like everything about it, especially the Mesquite.

I have run out of things to say about your knives! The folks in Seattle will be lucky to get to take a look in person.

    Stick tang shoulder/guard?

I bought one not that long ago from Bruce Bump. Quality is on par with the rest of his stuff. Almost too nice to use!

    First folder, gunstock slippy

Very nice! Getting those pins to disappear is the hardest part for me. In fact it is so hard that it doesn't happen very often yet! Good looking knife you made.

Any thoughts before I scrap this?

Laurence, I like your idea better than mine. Here at the recently opened "Money Up Front Art Sales" we'll start the bidding at Will probably have to take it up there where they don't know what "Akerns" are to get it sold!

where to find a custom made metal stamp ( makers mark)

I have FITZGERALD as a last name but was able to get it down to only 3/8" in width which was something I was really worried about. Would be hard to stamp slipjoints otherwise. The name is Schrammel stamps. I found them on ebay.http://www.ebay.com/itm/STEEL-HAND-S...40597024035%26 I thought it...

Any thoughts before I scrap this?

It's a little small for a Texas nut cracker, but it ought to handle our "Paper Shell" pecans at least. Yeah, my mother in law in New Jersey had never heard of "Akerns"! All I know is the deer down here love em.

    Swayback Jack

You quick learners really chap my hide! Nobody has told you yet that this is supposed to be hard? I hope when I get to #26 mine look as good. Looking forward to seeing more of your knives.:o How hard was it to inlay the shield? I bought some from Boss along with a template, but...

Any thoughts before I scrap this?

Here is a pic from the front. I'm thinking maybe a piece of railroad track affixed where the lower die sits and reshape one of the big punches into whatever shape you needed. I would assume something about 2 or 3 inches across that looked like the face of a hammer. I think you can...

Any thoughts before I scrap this?

I have this punch that I acquired when I bought the contents of a gasket company at a tax sale years ago. It was full of all kinds of great stuff. I kept some of the equipment and have sold most of what I didn't see any use for. I need to clean out the warehouse I have this stored in and...

Super glue for 2 blade slipjoint?

I have never made a 2 blade, but started a small 2 blade trapper today. I stuck two pieces of steel together with super glue and am proceeding just as I would with a single blade. I have the double thickness "knife" sitting about .010 high in the closed position and am going to knock the...
