First slipjoint..

Hi there,
Here is some pics of my first slipjoint.. The liners are made of an old stainless steel ruler, brass bolsters, scales are homemade t-shirt/polyester resin, blade and spring made of an old file. Did the heat treatment in my living room; heated in the wood burner, quenched in water. Tempered with a blow torch.
As you can tell from the pics it's far from perfect..; the pivot pins are visible in the bolster, the pins for the scales and spring have different sizes, the blade still shows some scratches, voids in the soldering of the bolsters. I learned a lot from the build process, so hopefully my next slipjoints will be better!

Good job. It looks better than my first one. I still use old stainless door kick plates for practice liners sometimes if I am unsure about my handle design. Nothing wrong with working with what you have. I bet it didn't take long to figure out how long your scales needed to be.:biggrin: You are addicted now and will suffer many heartaches and frustrations, early on, but man is fun building folders!

Thank you very much for the kind words! I realize that some sort of surface grinding equipment would be a good thing to have when building slipjoints... I think my next project will be a simple "surface grinding attachment" for my grinder!

I like it, great 1st knife. Hi marks for ingenuity and resourcefulness but id have to say as a former Commander in a fire dept. I'm not to keen about the idea of heat treating in your living room...smh.:les:
