I etch my mark before I etch the Damascus, then paint it with fingernail polish, etch in FC and there it is!

    Few if my latest.

Here are a few of my latest. They are all 1084/15n20 and handles are buckeye burl, Claro walnut, and some oak that was laying on the bottom of Lake Superior for 150 years. One has an elk horn spacer. The smaller ones are based off the knife I have been carring everyday for the last year. They're...

    CruForge V temper issues

I checked a half a dozen times and the reading was very consistent. Yesterday I ran a batch of 1084/15n20 and my as quenched hardness was about 66 RhC, and I also did some of the same with the CFV last time. I asked a MS what his as qunnched hardness is for similar mix, and he had about the same...

    CruForge V temper issues

Hey guys, been away for awhile. I did some quick testing on he blade, and found it quite tough, so I left it as is. I stuck in in a pine board and pryed out the tip sideways a dozen times, chopped into pine knots as much as you can with a 4" blade and had no damage. These where 4" hunters, so...

    CruForge V temper issues

Well, I'm kinda just experimenting with this steel. I see that the specs call for higher temps, but i had read of some getting good results with a soak at 1475. I'm not an expert at this HT stuff, but I thought that you normally wanted the lowest temp that got the it fully hard. I would say...

    CruForge V temper issues

I tried a couple blades of CFV with a 1475 with a 15 min soak and quench in parks. I had a RhC of 68 as quenched. After several rounds of tempering, I am still at 62-63 and last temp was 515 degrees. Each tempering was at least an hour in my evenheat. Just keep upping the temp?

    Laddered "W's" and ironwood bowie

Thanks for the kind words guys. Progress on the sheath has been slow, I got lots of irons in the fire right now. Need I finish it though so I can turn it into some green.

    Laddered "W's" and ironwood bowie

Laddered "W's" SHEATH PICS ADDED! Here is the latest out of my shop. First time for laddered w's for me. 14.5" over all and 9" blade, about .25" at the riccaso. Guard is twisted w's, though it look like just twist :( dommed stainless pin in a nicely figgured DI handle. Balance is right under...

    Vest Bowie

Thanks! No, it's an electro etch, I etch it, and then fingernail polish it, then etch the Damascus

    Vest Bowie

Thanks DeMo! Yes, it's my own Damascus for the blade and stud. I made the stud using my drill press and files. I did start it some chucked into my drill at the grinder.

    Vest Bowie

Laurence, this block was from a 15 lbs order from Goby wood products that I sent out to k and g to stabilize. I had a few dyed black and a few dyed brown. I also got some Claro walnut from them.

    Vest Bowie

Thanks Laurence! It's black dyed maple, but it does look kinda purple in the pics! It's kinda a steel grey really. The guy picked it, but I hear ya, most collectors aren't into dyed stuff. I'm not sure vest Bowie is accurate either, but it "small Bowie" just don't have the same ring to it! This...

    Vest Bowie

Here is my latest. This was a custom order picking and choosing bits and pieces from other knives I had. 6" blade and dyed and stabilized curly maple. My leather to go with it. The guard is twisted wrought. Please let me know what you think. Constructive criticism welcomed!
