    High temp salt tanks.Need help

What about temperature regulation, should I eye ball it or should I put the PID in the forge and use it when im heat treating placing the thermocouple in the pipe? I was hoping to really be able to get some soak times on the steel with a bit of consistency. Man thanks guy you are a great help!

    High temp salt tanks.Need help

I have seen some pictures of the mistakes some have made and it out right scares me. I would like to think I have the sense enough to give them the respect they deserve but I have also been guilty of a bone head mistake from time to time and im sure not above doing it again. At this point I...

Bought first real grinder, help with accessories and set up?

I'm sure that the more options you had available the better off you would be. I chuck up a small barrel sander in the drill press and use it until I get a small wheel attachment for the grinder. To shape the handle I use the belt grinder and cheap AO belts, this was recommended in the USA knife...

Bought first real grinder, help with accessories and set up?

USA Knife makers has a great how to select belts article that I used, Also a great place to deal with and shipping was fast and accurate. I started with full flat grinds, pretty easy to do freehand and they have turned out well. Then I went to convex full grinds, again pretty easy to do. Now...

    High temp salt tanks.Need help

As Normal I read more and get a bit scared, I think what im going to do is build it with gas but try it without salts for a bit until I feel brave enough to put salts in it. If I use a Thermocouple and a PID inside the pipe I should be able to hold and regulate a consistent temperature. Anyone...

    High temp salt tanks.Need help

Ok I have a few questions for toughs of you using these. Im looking at building one but cant decide if I want to go with gas or electric heat. My plan is that if I go with gas ill build it much like a round forge on end with a PID controlled gas valve, pretty much the same if I go with electric...

Check this Old Craftsman Knife Out~!?

I made the handle for the little axe that I call "The Mighty Chopper" from a oak firewood round. It was something fast and easy, built to suit my needs and hand. It would look great with file work but I was to taken back by it to even polish it up.

Check this Old Craftsman Knife Out~!?

Pretty cool, I found a very small hatchet head made by craftsman a few months ago, its a bad little axe for sure , sharp as all can be and just tiny. I was amazed to see the craftsman name , awesome knife, I wonder if the warranty would still be valid?

    New use for your Anvil

Pretty cool and all but now all i want to do is drop a ball bearing on every one of his anvils and see the different reactions, that was one heck of an anvil collection. Im glad to see someone preserving so many but at the same time im all broken up that they are not in use.

    Chamfering Tubing?

To flare the tubing I use a Field point from an arrow, I chuck it up in the drill and go pretty fast. At first it would take just a bit of finishing but the point is so polished now that its smooth as butter. To make the hole I firs drill the hole and then get the bit that is 2 sizes larger and...
