    1st knife from scratch!

Thanks Rudy :) My "gripe" I guess is just that I wanted it to turn out better than it did. Not a big deal or anything, I just want to do better......and I WILL!!:biggrin: The "scratch" on the front of the bolster must be a hair from the gray fox fur that I didn't notice but you are...

Looks great! I love reading these threads because of all the knowledge that you can find. (i.e.- indexing the pins) Great stuff. Keep it up! You're doing great!

    cutting out a blade question

With the methods below, do you have any trouble with edge hardening since it gets so hot? I do have an angle grinder and a Dremel tool. The one thing I worry about when using cutoff wheels like that is getting the wheel in a bind and it shattering. I saw that happen once and a piece of...

    1st knife from scratch!

Thanks!:) Boiled in bleach over a turkey fryer. FWIW- The only reason I did it on my own was because I was shown how to do it. It's some really nasty, caustic stuff and you have to be REALLY careful about it. The fumes are bad stuff too.

    cutting out a blade question

Since I don't have a portable metal band saw, what is the best way to cut out a blade from 1/4" O1 flat stock? I have a variable speed jig saw that I can put a metal cutting blade in but it jumps up and down pretty bad if the blade binds even slightly. I have a bandsaw for wood but I was told...

    1st knife from scratch!

You're exactly right Keith. I got impatient and tried to finish the bolsters and scales prior to assembly.:34: The part that I am not satisfied with is the fit of the scales to the bolsters. Also, when I soldered the bolsters on, the ricasso got a little hotter than I wanted. You can see...

    If I had the room

My grandpa had one just like that. Unfortunately it sold on the auction a year and a half ago. Before I got into knife making.:2: Wish I had known that I was going to get into knife making back then, he had quite a few things that I would have liked to have had.:34:

    NWGS Plans Questions

I really like the instructions. Very well written and straight forward. The CAD drawings took me back to my days in metal fab.:5: One thing I thought about was a cut sheet for just the frame, then a cut sheet for each attachment in addition to the combined cut sheet for the frame and all...

I lost my heat treat oven plans I sent them out to several people

Anthony, I'm just getting started in knife making and don't have much in the way of "knife specific" tools yet. Is there a charge for these plans? If so, how much? If not, would it be possible for you to e-mail them to me? zbq3774@gmail.com Thank you kindly.

Oh, I forgot to add that I'm not sure if this is the right section to post these questions in. If not, the mods can move it to the proper area. Just let me know where the proper area is. Thanks

    NWGS Plans Questions

I just got the plans in the mail today and read through the material. I have a couple of questions. Tracking block brackets: It says to use a 3"x1"x1/8" piece of bar stock and bend it to 90* I have 1.5" x 1.5" x 1/8" angle iron on hand, can I use that or is there a reason that you have...
