ok. i got an order for a cleaver. somewhere between "kitchen useable" and "war cleaver". i want to make it useable. what width is a good width (from edge to spine) and what thickness? i have never made or even used a cleaver, so i need some help. should there be any type of angle/cant to...

i sold some stuff... but not alot. i started with files, then a cheap 1x30.... then i walked into a deal from one of my best pals for a bandsaw and a 2x72 grizzly...... sometimes i still have to sell off something to fund belts or material... :)

john, why not drop back farther to 80 grit or so? when i used files i started with 80 grit, then 120, 220, 320, and on up... finished it off with super fine steel wool........ like has been said.... get it going right with the low grits, and the high grits are easier.

60 to 120 to 220 to 400, back to 120 when i screw it up... oops... REPEAT... 120, 220, 400... OP... back to 60.... 120, 220....... 220.......... 220.......... 400....... run in the house and put it down screaming "DON'T TOUCH IT DON'T TOUCH IT DON'T TOUCH IT!!!
