I'm new here, but IG was one of the first to welcome me! Prayers and thoughts in his name for sure! Charlie

1st one in 15 years finished from scratch

Made this drop point skinner from a file that used to belong to my great-great uncle. He passed away in the 70's so I feel confident that the steel was decent enough for this critter. 9" OAL File blade knife Convex grind Mesquite wood scales w/tung oil finish Copper clad steel...

Shop Visit (Got Put To Work)

Work or not, looks like a great time to me! I've only visited one knife maker, but I've LOVED the work! Charlie

    This is for Wayne Coe

Wayne, since I couldn't ship any brisket to you, and just the thought of a 600 mile trip made my back hurt, I figured I'd at least let you see one sliced up with the slicing knife I put together. This is one of the blanks from the lot I purchased. NONE of the blanks have been sharpened so...

    1ST Knife

Looks to me like a great little necker! The handle wrap looks great, I may need to get a tutorial from him on how to do it. Charlie

    Sharp enough

The little freebie blade that was finished tonight proved its worth... I held at too steep of an angle when going for shaving and it bit... :34: This is with LITTLE pressure and NO forward movement at first! Yeah, I jumped when I felt the pain! :31: I think it's sharp! :what...

Considering buying a full lot of old blanks for scaling, need assistance

Pat, I meant to add this to the above thread, but forgot since I got into BBQ mode! :what!: Well, since this is a knife designated for the BBQer, the first choice would be scales made from wood made for the pit! I plan to offer these knives scaled in the following: Stabilized Mesquite...

Considering buying a full lot of old blanks for scaling, need assistance

Wayne, shipped brisket just tastes BAD! :p My MAIN hobby is custom BBQ. That is truly my first love in life... Seeing one of my guests bite into a piece of meat and just sigh, gets me going! Tell you what, if I ever get the opportunity to get to one of the knife events in your area...

    Threw one together today...

When I ordered the slicing knife blank to evaluate it I also received a little "freebie" knife. It's a small clip point and will be perfect for some trimming and paring in the kitchen. Since it was a freebie, and I had some goofy looking freebie scales, not to mention some 5 minute epoxy...

Considering buying a full lot of old blanks for scaling, need assistance

The scales will be going on pretty soon this morning and then I get to attack the honey do list... yard, garage, etc... As the weekend progresses I SHOULD be able to toss a brisket on and then get some pics of the semi-final knife in action... Charlie

Considering buying a full lot of old blanks for scaling, need assistance

:31: Um, kinda guilty of that one... But, I only grabbed hot metal once... I do plan to scale this blank tomorrow, and as I told Bob, I plan to brass rod test and use it to slice and dice some beef meats! Real world use does say a lot for a blade, and hopefully I can find out...

Considering buying a full lot of old blanks for scaling, need assistance

DUH!!! Thanks for pointing out the OBVIOUS to me! :35: We have 3 different machine shops as vendors at work and I DID NOT think about them at all! After seeing this I called one of the reps and have the blade in his hand for testing tomorrow! Um, no charge as well... :what!: Thanks...

Considering buying a full lot of old blanks for scaling, need assistance

The knife blanks are perfect for the BBQ community that I am affiliated with in my main hobby. Hollow ground, flat cutting edge, perfect for slicing briskets, etc... BUT, before I start to buy I would like to know what the hardness is of the blank. I don't want to send folks a knife that...

Ever used Loctite 2 part epoxy?

Dozier, has a great point I didn't think about. Plastic spoons would be not only good, but closer to what one needs for bonding scales! A syringe would be good as well, but a bit more expensive than a toss away spoon. I love this place.... LOTS of great minds thinking...

Ever used Loctite 2 part epoxy?

You can get the measuring cups at Walgreen's to start. We get them in bulk from Atlanta Med. Let us know if this works or not. Charlie

    Got a vise ??????

I'll play... But, I don't want it UNLESS it is guaranteed to help me to stop buying band-aids! :what!: I've tried a LOT of ways to clamp a knife, each has cut me thus far... Charlie

8-23-09 KnifeDogs started - We are 1 year old

Well, I've only been here a few months. Lurked before registering, and quickly figured out that this place rocks for real information. I am a registered member of several other knife forums, but this is the only one I post at. I don't even comment at the others any more. Why, you may ask...

Knife class at Bob Warner’s part deux

Some of you may remember the first lesson I took at Bob’s which turned me into a semi monster, for those that don’t, look here… http://knifedogs.com/showthread.php?10949-Had-my-first-forging-lesson-Sunday! Since then Bob and I have talked back and forth about the next direction to go and we...

Ever used Loctite 2 part epoxy?

That is the same 2 part epoxy we use at work for bonding CF to aluminum, and one thing that we have found with curing issues is that BOTH parts need to be equal when dispensed and mixed. If a little more hardener is used than resin it cures too fast; if more resin than hardener it takes a LONG...
