    File Guide

That looks great. I thought about trying to make one myself but didn't know if I had everything I needed to pull it off. I am a big fan of making your own tools when possible. However I am glad to throw the fine folks at USA KnifeMaker a little bone. Beside that I have this knife sold (fist...

    File Guide

Just ordered a file guide from USA KnifeMaker. I am really hoping it will help me make my guards fit perfectly like the ones I saw at the Arkansas knife show. I have really been fighting getting those darn things to fit just right. The last one had just a tiny little line, but it wasn't...

It was great to meet all you guys as well. That is a great show, it was my first real knife show 3 years ago. There were a lot of great knives and Bruce's stuff was just insane. (in a good way)

    Titanium question

I think titanium only get to about 44-46 on the Rockwell C scale. Not to good for knives. However George Lambert of Titan Knife Technologies makes some titanium fillet knives with the edge treated with the Rocklin Roclizer that perform out of this world. It impregnates tungsten carbide into...

    Profile question

Thanks for the info. That makes sense. It seems like the more I learn about blade geometry, the less I know. Suprising how much difference a little off the profile can make. Thanks again guys.

    Profile question

I had a blade I forged and HT and it would only get 5-6 cuts on 5/8" rope. I figured the HT was bad so I Ht'd again. Still only 5-6 cuts. I looked at it closely and determined I may have had it a little too thick. I am new to this and that is my tendancie to get them a little thick some...

    Preparing Wood for Handles

I have access to large amounts of Mesquite trees/bushes. I have seen some really nice mesquite handles, but do not know how to gather and prepare it for handles. I would think you would want the root for some nice burl and I would think it would take a long time to dry. I have no experience...

    Rookie Temper Question

Thanks Doug, You hear all kinds of stuff, I just wanted to know if I was getting there. I don't know any makers in my area and this and other forums are about all I have. I like your signature.

    Rookie Temper Question

One more question. I am still playing with this knife and haven't done the bend test yet. Guess I'm not in a hurry to ruin my first knife that performs fairly well. I sharpened it and then chopped thorugh a pine 2x4. No knots in it but was resonable hard for pine. The cutting edge is only...

    Had to redesign

I am not a big recurve fan, but it does look good. Different people like different things and I am sure there are plenty of folks that would want one of those. As for sharpening, I would think a tirangle sharpmaker or a diamond or ceramic rod would work fine and they are readialy available.

    Blades testing

Thanks Ed that is what I was looking for. I know there are all kinds of variables and needs, I was just curious about how other people test. Rope is one of my favorites as I can get it at the hardware store and it is a good test of cutting ability. Threre was a time when I was not able to...

    Blades testing

I am very new to knife making and wanted to know how you guys test your blades for cut, edge holding ability, toughness ect. Is there some sort of unwritten standard about how many rope or carboard cuts a blade should get or some other test medium. I know there are many variations, what the...

    Rookie Temper Question

Just thought I would give an update on this blade. I got it finished to a point where I could sharpen and test it. I got 110 cuts on 3/4" hemp rope and it was slowing down but still cutting. It was about 100 degrees out side so I quit. I did an edge flex on a 90 dgree corener of a table saw...
