Pic of the KMG Tensioning Wheel?

I seem to remember 3 degrees. I have made several at 3* with an 1/8" or so of land in the middle and they work well.

    Quench blocks

I don't know, by the time I have all 6 loaded, the 1st one is cool. I can take it out, cut it open, check for flatness, and put it in the tempering oven

    Quench blocks

Overview of the whole rig Closeup of it open The quick release mechanism I can do 6 knives at a time, and by the time you get 6 loaded, the 1st one is cool. I had to do some machining on the blocks, because the vise jaws are not parallel, and parallel is exactly what we need here. I still...

    Questions about Lateral Strength

In this particular instance, it would be an internal chamfer or radius. The radius will distribute stress better.

    Questions about Lateral Strength

Typically, in engineering, a radius is better than a chamfer.

    Framelock question

The same. .148" Most of them will be bolstered framelocks, and I like both sides to be about the same thickness, so I use .150 ish material for the frame. When all is said and done, the knives come in just shy of 1/2" thick.

82* is the standard for Imperial screws, 90* for metric.

    Framelock question

I like 1/8 - 5/32. Building about 60 right now out of .148. It's all about the ergonomics though, as none is necessarily any stronger than the rest. You have to cut relief for your lock to bend, and that's your weak point.

    Questions about Lateral Strength

My bad I guess??? I was under the impression that was exactly what we were talking about. Stuck in a tree, and stood on, to escape a bear. Although I find that analogy strange, since a bear can climb a tree better than most of us.

    Questions about Lateral Strength

One of your original questions was about testing. It seems to me that the best test for your lateral breaking strength would be to do just what you proposed. Hang weight on them until they fail ! I tested my ECS locking mechanism that way, though I never did make it to failure, simply because it...

    Forced patina on CPM D2

Cheap candle warmers, or coffee cup warmers are great for this type thing. When I used to break taps on a regular basis, I'd put my acid jar on a coffee cup heater outside. Sped up the process dramatically. There's also a tiny Crock-Pot made that we just got for $10 I use it like a double boiler

    Standoffs to small.

If your going to drill and tap, you can just buy precision ground 416 stainless at about $4 a foot from McMaster. That's how I made my 1st batch of pivots and stop pins. I prefer to buy them nowadays. The most I want to do is trim to length. I'm a lazy SOB...
