    Question on o-1 blade

Thanks!!! OK, Thanks for the replys! The pits are very very small. Looks more like cloudyness, to naked eye. Using a magnifying glass reveals pits. Looking straight into it looks like a mirror. As far as being to hot during heat treat.. They were heat treated at work, whith an oven that was...

    Question on o-1 blade

I heat treated 4 blades, to rockwell of 59. I am mirror finishing one, that took a nice mirror finish. But... In the right light, and angle it seems to be covered with little pits. Can these be taken out, or do I just have to live with them? Is it just o-1 or is it just me? I started wet...

I tried to talk him out of it, but he is stuck on the idea:rolleyes:. What I'm planing is making micarta using a purple jersey, with...

    Heat treat ?

Couldn't be happier! Just got back from work, I stayed late to HT my first 4 blades. Went perfectly! Tempered at 450 degrees, no warpage, and Rockwel tested to 59 when finished. Very, very happy.:D Should have some pictures to post soon. Dave

    Heat treat ?

Thanks for your reply!!! Good to hear o-1 isn't picky on quenching oil. My thoughts on the foil are the same... Would be nice to use, but what a pain to get it done in time. How much warpage can be expected? Guess I should be prepared to deal with it. I am shooting for a rockwell of 58...

    Heat treat ?

Hi, I am about ready to heat treat my first knives! Since I melted my homebuilt oven down, I will do it at work. At work, we have two ovens. They were both just recalibrated, and will work great. I plan on making a rack and doing four blades all at once. Blades are o-1 tool steel that I will...

    micarta problems

Thanks, pictures don't do it justice at all. Looks much better in person. I plan on dressing it up with a copper trigger guard, spacers, sling swivels, bolt nob, etc, with a leather and denum sling, and of course it will have a matching knife. It was way to much work to ever do another! It took...

    Homemade heat treat oven?

They send with a little extra wire which you cut into short pieces, bend a j, and just push them in. You should have a little extra wire on your coils also. In all you will have more than you need. Any more questions, just ask! Will help if I can. Dave Also, I did my door...
