Shop Music Thread- what are you listening to today?

Probably their best album too. You’re probably familiar with the record he did with Chet Atkins, “Neck and Neck”.

    Epoxi

In aviation we use something called Cabosil to thicken structural adhesives. Be aware, this stuff can be dangerous to work with. It's extremely fine and floats in the air. You DO NOT want to breath it in (think carbon fiber or G10 dust but finer). We usually mix it into the adhesive at a down...

Nice to see you here Ben. Love your Mystery Boxes! It’s kinda like Christmas when they arrive. I’ve also purchased from Ben. Great quality stuff.

    Handles coming apart

I started doing this with mine also - drilling fewer holes and adding a fuller. I also prefer using welder's clamps to C-clamps for clamping. I feel I'm less likely to put too much pressure on with them and squeeze out all the epoxy ( I also find them quicker to put on when my hands get all...

    2021 KITH Jones/Kingery

I didn't notice the stippling on the sheath the first time. That is a really nice detail. Beautiful work! I believe the knife and sheath can go under the belt, with the belt going through the slot. At least that's what I've seen in photos.

Here’s the frame handle Bowie and frontier style rawhide sheath I’ve been working on. Blade, guard, frame and fittings are 1084. Handle is Giraffe bone.

And done. This rawhide really made the chocolate brown dye look pretty red.

What's going on in your shop?

Thanks Ken. The sheath is proving to be as big a challenge. Big knives bring all kinds of complications.

What's going on in your shop?

It’s coming together. All prepped and ready to glue up. most complex build I’ve tried yet. I got a feeling this is going to be messy

I have an Atlas mini also. I’d recommend warm canola oil. Use a magnet and watch the color. Should be a shade brighter than when it turns non magnetic- kinda cherry red. I pump it in and out to keep the heat even. Kevin Cashen’s video on 1080/1084 is an awesome resource for this steel.

What's going on in your shop?

As a kid, I was always fascinated by the fish "decoys" my grandfather used for spear fishing. Guess the point was to lure the bigger fish to the hole.

What's going on in your shop?

Nice. My Grandfather used to spear fish in the Upper Peninsula. Always regretted not going out with him to try it.

Final fit up underway. Showing a gap I’ll need to address to save the scales. Already have ideas for the next one.

What's going on in your shop?

First time using Birchwood Casey Plumb Brown. I’m really liking the effect. I think it will work well with the Giraffe bone.

What's going on in your shop?

Scales will be giraffe bone. Planning on copper liners and forming the guard to an “S” guard too.
