    desktop knife

There is a guy that has a habbit of putting a bug in my ear about trying new styles of blades. His ideas are always really good and they get me to try new things. Usually people suggest crazy blade styles that don't interest me, like Klingon battle daggers or big tacticool type blades. The...

    Palm Necker

That's a slick, little cutter. I like that the handle portion of this little knife is almost like a ball. It looks like it would fill the hand better than many little knives and give the feeling of actually having a grip on it.

    semi-skinner

That brush looks great. The piece of tamarind I bought at Wood Craft was stabilized very well. It cut great with a file, sanded very nicely, and polished well. I have worked with some "stabilized" wood before that didn't seem all that stabilized. Some of the stabilized wood from Jantz Supply...

    I want your opinions

I think you are correct. It would look better if you knocked that 1/4" off of it. I know it's not complete yet but it looks damn good.

    semi-skinner

Found it. I bought the block at Wood Craft and lost the package. The wood the spalted tamarind. I never heard of it before. http://www.woodcraft.com/product/2083040/39066/tamarind-spalted-stabilized-1-x-112-x-5-knife-scale-1piece.aspx

    semi-skinner

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Art and Ausbrooks, I thought it was maple also. I have worked with stabilized maple quite a bit but I have doubts after working down the handle. It was much harder than any maple I have worked with. Maybe it was stabilized differently than the other stuff...

    semi-skinner

I finally finished another knife. This one is 9" OAL with a 3/16" O1 blade. The handle is some sort of stabilized wood. The file work is a new pattern for me and it really tested my file skills.

Best way to finish Buckeye Burl

I take notice of any voids in the scales when I start hand sanding. I put a drop of super glue in the voids and sand over it while the super glue is wet. The sanding dust mixes with the super glue and quickly dries. I may need to do this a couple times if the void is large. By the time you...

    second bowie knife

I posted this on the knife photo thread but thought I would drop it here also. I finished my second Bowie style knife and it has my first attempt at a frame handle. The knife is 16 1/2" OAL with a 1/4" D2 blade. It was a fun project.

    My second Bowie style knife

This is my second attempt at a Bowie and my first frame handle knife. My first Bowie was ok but it missed the mark. Something about the profile seemed wrong. I'm much happier with this one. There are many very fine knives that are labeled Bowie knives but this is my idea of what a Bowie...

    Blade rust ?

I let my carbon steel, user knives tarnish or rust if they want to. I clean them after use, let them dry and store them in the sheath. I don't see the point in trying to keep a knife looking new if it gets used.

    Maple burl and O1

Finished this one yesterday. It's 8" OAL, 1/8" O1 blade, with stabilized maple burl and stainless bolsters.

    finished one for a bowhunter

I just completed the sheath for this one. It's 8" OAL with a 3 1/2" long, 1/8" thick 01 blade. The handle is linen micarta. It will see use as a field dressing knife for an avid bowhunter.

    drop point hunter

Thanks everyone for the kind words. It is kinda intimidating to post knives on this site. I have seen some very impressive work here. the type of work that makes me scratch my head and ask" how did they do that?"

    Have You Ever Danced?

A friend of mine told me to never get into a fight with an old man. They are too old to fight so they will just kill you and be done with it. Don't know where he heard that.

    Silver Bullet

I really like the look of the knife and the fit and finish look great.

    oak?

I have worked with oak before and I know that it is a tough, hard wood but I have not seen it used for knife handles. I assumed it was because of the large, open grain and it looks very plain in small pieces. I did find some stabilized oak burl and tried it. The stabilized oak burl made a...

    Finally finished another knife

My job is always getting in the way of my hobby but I did find time to finish this semi-skinner. It has an O-1 blade with linen micarta scales. It should be a handy knife for a deer hunting type of guy.
