    THAT is a sharp knife.

Don't bleed on the carpet! (My wife said...)

    Scuff marks behind lanyard tube

Yes I have that problem too and I think opaul's suggestion about the backer board is helpful to address that. And I try to sand with the grain so any remaining scratches blend in better.

I’m okay but here are two things to avoid.

Thanks for the reminders. Glad you're OK!

    corian scales

I have used it on a recent filet knife as a wide spacer and just used Tru-Oil gunstock finish on it along with the rest of the handle. Buffed up nicely. Haven't tried fileting a fish yet so cant speak to it's stain resistance...

    Question about using a buffer.

I went out and took the buffing wheel off my grinder a little while ago. I hardly use it anyway and now I won't be tempted. And after a stupid little drill press incident I had a couple of weeks ago, the foot switches Ed mentioned above seem like a good idea. Thanks all!

    Short stubby skinner

Looks good! Dark rings around the pins might be a result of getting them too hot while power sanding and they start to burn the wood. I've had that happen a couple of times.

    Wooden sheath experiment

First leather piece ended up too short and didn't grip the knife handle. So redid it... now it's a nice snug fit. Didn't think about a belt loop... Hmmm it's not glued together yet. Pondering.

    Wooden sheath experiment

So I saw a knifemaker's site with beautiful knives and he had interesting sheaths for them that were basically a wooden body with a leather top or collar warp around the handle. Thought I'd play with something similar. I have a small fillet knife that needs new sheath, so here's what I've come...

    Simple sheath build along

Dennis, this was awesome! I'm gonna have to refer to the braiding pictures several times before I'll get that right. I think you gave me a link to a video on that technique awhile back. I'm going to have to watch that again too. Thank you for taking the time to do this!

    Simple sheath build along

Do you ever use a hair dryer once it's rubbed on the leather to get it to liquify and flow into the nooks and cranny's?

    Simple sheath build along

Thanks Dennis! When you come back tomorrow, can you maybe expand on your satin shene method a little? Did you just put a little in the tube and roll the sheath around in it?

At least it wasn't on the dining room table... just sayin'...

    Simple sheath build along

This is great Dennis! I'm not sure I'm understanding which parts you dyed with which dye. Is the border the mahogany antique and the basketweave the lighter brown?

Almost back in the shop...with a new design.

I like the lines on the plain one best. But I think this is what threw me off on the lanyard model too. It might be hard to make that angle though if the lanyard hole/knob is threaded on to the end of the tang. Hmmm...
