I have an Atlas mini also. I’d recommend warm canola oil. Use a magnet and watch the color. Should be a shade brighter than when it turns non magnetic- kinda cherry red. I pump it in and out to keep the heat even. Kevin Cashen’s video on 1080/1084 is an awesome resource for this steel.

As a kid, I was always fascinated by the fish "decoys" my grandfather used for spear fishing. Guess the point was to lure the bigger fish to the hole.

Nice. My Grandfather used to spear fish in the Upper Peninsula. Always regretted not going out with him to try it.

Final fit up underway. Showing a gap I’ll need to address to save the scales. Already have ideas for the next one.

First time using Birchwood Casey Plumb Brown. I’m really liking the effect. I think it will work well with the Giraffe bone.

Scales will be giraffe bone. Planning on copper liners and forming the guard to an “S” guard too.

I just received some stainless Damascus from Chad Nichols that I won in a drawing. Beautiful stuff. Pretty sure I’ll be able to heat treat and etch it following the instructions from his website. I’ll just need to get some foil. Anyone with experience with this kind of material have any advice...

Orders for the year are done! Now I get to work on a project for me . I’ve been wanting to do another frame handle Bowie since I finished the first one earlier this year.

This one was a customer request. A modified Green River style butcher knife with a Hawaiian theme. It will be a gift to a Pineapple plantation.
