    W2 and 80CRV2 heat treat

Can’t believe nobody has responded to you yet. I would love to give you specific numbers for your oven but I have always heat treated 1084 by eye and magnet. I quench in Parks and then temper at 400-415 degrees for 2 one hour periods. I understand 80crv2 is very similar to 1080/1084 as far as...

Outstanding work! A Zulu pattern lock back is my next project. Can’t wait to try my hand at one.

That makes a lot of sense. What grit paper do you use with the lap? Thanks!

    3rd slipjoint is done!

Thank y’all very much! I don’t think I’ve ever built something that fights back every step of the way like a slipjoint does. Lol! That is strangely addicting. Not sure what that says about me. Does anybody have an easy way to shorten barrels and screws? That was probably the most maddening...

    Wharncliffe Swayback Slipjoint folder

Beautiful work!! What do you use for the pivot? I’ve never been able to figure that out. Thanks for posting!

    3rd slipjoint is done!

Just finished this slippie today. It’s my third slipjoint but first one to complete with screw together construction. It is in 1095 and G-10. It went fairly smoothly until it came to shortening all of the pivot barrels and screws. If anybody has a way to do that accurately without losing half of...

    Slipjoint assembly jig

I have made slipjoints with pins in the past but wanted to try one with screw together construction. Getting the pivot barrels in and out with the spring tension is much more difficult than using tapered pins. I made this jig that takes the pressure off of the blade and allows easy placement of...

Love the acid/stonewash. What was used to accomplish that look?

    My second Slipjoint

Oze, the pins are used as is. They are not hardened. To my knowledge 416 pin stock can be hardened to some degree but does not come that way from most knife supply companies. Maybe someone else can comment on this?

    My second Slipjoint

Pivot pin was 1/8" 416 stainless and the spring pins were 3/32" of the same material. Good luck on your slippie. Let me know if I can be of any help!

    My second Slipjoint

KenH- it is indeed jeweling. It was a good thought I think but it is very hard to see it once it's all put together. I just think it's kinda cool when people put in the work on the tiny details that may never be noticed. That being said I'm not sure I would do it again. Lol!

    My second Slipjoint

Thanks Guys! John, I really have no idea how many hours I have in it. I would guess probably 12-15. That does include starting over at one point on the liners as the set I originally made I scrapped because I had messed up one side when I relieved the liners.

I just wanted to say thanks again for sending me the Lanny's Clip pattern a while back. I just got around to finishing my second Slipjoint. They are very addicting! There is a pic in the folding knife forum thread I just started if you would like to see it. I couldn't figure out how to post it...
