    Felt Platen Duro

Do not use felt as a belt backer. There are multiple reasons: It wears super fast but most important you can not get a straight grind line using a soft belt back surface. Research a glass platen instead.

    Glass platen?

We use glass (on platens) on every grinder in the shop. Borosilicate or fireplace glass has multiple brand names. Fireplace glass handles heat expansion better than “regular” glass. Proprietary versions are used in cooking glass pans, cups, etc. It is often called ceram, ceramic glass, pyro...

    Handles coming apart

Both epoxies you used are fine. Surface prep and application matter more than the brand of modern epoxies.

    drill bits for tang holes

some stuff on drills 1. Use Jobber length, these are shorter than typical drills. This gives you less flex. 2. drills come in a variety of points, ie: 118, 135 degrees, single, split point. For metal use a 135 degree jobber split point. Less walking of the point, less run out from a stiffer...

What's going on in your shop?

I have never spear fished so I thought I should make a spear and try it. This is 8x8" in 1/4" mild steel I cut on the plasma table. The handle is 5/8" mild and I welded a huge nut on the end for the rope loop. I cut a few extra heads and will list them on the web site if you want to make your...

A little more progress. Elephant Ivory scales I traded Howard Clark for a year ago. Old pre-ban stuff. Lot's to clean up but it's coming along. I really like these.
