    300 series stainless

I drill 3/32 holes in 304ss with a cobalt drll. Use a sharp one with steady pressure and some oil. I use a slow drill speed of 480 rpm and steady pressure to keep the bit cutting steady. If I start to feel any chatter at all, clear the hole and continue drilling. I find the sharp cobalt bits...

    What RPM buffer to buy?

I like the 1800rpm versus the 3600rpm. The buffing compound stays on a little better and I use a lot of D-2 steel. It gives it a better polish. Anyway, that's what works best for me. Steve

    Knife Making and being Disabled

Knifemaking does distract from chronic pain and keeps you moving and doing something useful. It seems like if you don't keep pushing, you lose the ability to keep moving on. I've had M.S. for 36 years and if I don't use it, I lose it. Knifemaking keeps me going physically and mentally. Most all...

    Model #40

Thanks for the compliments guys. I must admit another reason I started using this method, was to avoid soldering the guard on, which I suck at. My photos don't show the the layers of alternating black fiber and nickle silver spacers below the stainless bolsters. Maybe I will show some various...

    Poor Man's Heat Treating Thread...

I hope you don't get your vermiculite from Libby, Montana. It has asbestos in it, called tremolite. A lot of people here have died because of it. It's not just a "nuisance" dust and It will hurt you.

    Model #40

I've been making my knives like this for years too. I guess that's at least three of us with the same idea. I have never seen anyone else with this style either. I found by using this method, I can use just about any shape handle material I can get my hands on.

    drilling 304 stainless

I use cobalt drills. I use 3/32" size with slow rpm's and steady pressure so it doesn't slide on the top of the cut and work harden. If it does that forget about drilling that one and start over. I get all my 304 pinstock from Sheffield Knife Supply. I use 3/32" because it is easier to peen out...
