10k POT

Hopefully after this post I can spend some time grinding rather than taking up space on the board....

So, anyone know a good source for a quality 10k Pot?

Thanks

What will it be used for? I'd just pick one up from radio shack or a local electronics supply if I were you. Just make sure that it's rated for the wattage that you'll need.

When it comes to basic parts like that, one potentiometer is typically about as good as another.

I agree, but make sure its decent quality. Lots of crap out there.

I usually just try to stick with the pots that have metal shafts and make sure the "sweep" feels halfway consistent with a decent amount of friction.

So far I haven't had too much trouble with any like this.

Thanks Andrew. Truth be told I was set to go with a Radio Shack piece until google brought up a ton of options of higher end pots. The prices on the higher end of the 10k spectrum seem to range from 25-65 and it made me wonder what the difference was between one of these and the sub 10 dollar versions at RS.

The more expensive pots might have a little tighter tolerances/more precision and are likely put together a little better, but at the same time, the pot in your VFD is probably no better than what you'd buy at radio shack anyhow.

Others might also be more expensive because they are labeled as a specific replacement part for something, I.E., they have a specific shaft size or pot diameter, etc.... and that's just what the manufacturer is pricing them at as a middle man.
