Guys im looking for a couple of wheels to make a 1"x30" or maybe 1"x42" belt sharpener. The wheels need to be 2" in diameter x 1" thick. one will need to fit a 5/8" shaft and be keyed. the other will need to have bearings in it and i think have a 1/2" id. i called the guys at Beaumont Metal Works and they said with the work load they had they would not be able to help me out. which i can appreciate. its good to hear they are so busy. i have done a search on knife dogs and google but came up with nothing. does anyone know where i could find any? i have also looked at some of the more popular knife supply sites with no luck. thanks for your help

Mike I tried the link and looked around but I didnt find any 2" diameter x 1" wide wheels. I did find a 2"x2" idler wheel that might work for but its not arched any to aline up the belt. I guess i might not need the wheel to be arched. I'm new to all this and might be using the wrong terminology with using "arched". the only wheels I could find for drive wheels was 6" and 4" diameter. These will be too big. I guess i might have to have them custom made. Do you know anyone that will be able to make them?

1 X 2" are usually a small wheel attachment size. If you want to make a sharpener I still recommend a 2" x 72" Machine because of the different kinds of belts available and the lesser cost of these size belts. I would use a 5-10" at the bottom and a 2" wheel at the top. I use a 2 x 72" for sharpening & making on a daily basis.
Besides, You can use this for Knife Making too!

Look here, www.cootebeltgrinder.com/

Norman Coote makea a 2 x 42" and up, if you want a ready made grinder? These are great for your application.

Guys I want to thank y'all for all the help...Laurence I am also looking at a 2x72 for knife making...I want the 1x30 or 1x42 for its portability so I can take it to deer and elk camp...if any knives need sharpened I can do so and then get back to work...I want the unit to run slow and have a guide system to keep a constant angle also have a platen that I can move and put a convex edge on a knife...the guide system will need to also be adjustable for angle...I have actually found what I am looking for online but I think I can make one...the only problem I have been having is finding 2" diameter x 1" wide wheels one thetas keyed and the other with bearing that's beveled to be adjustable to aline the belts...I guess now I need to follow some of my leads and see if I can find some wheels...thanks again
