advice on bark ivory subhilt

Here are some pictures of a subhilt I am working on. The handle is mammoth with the top edge all bark. I need some advice on what to do with that top edge. Should I leave it entirely alone and expose as much of the bark as I can. Should I take off just the top rough bits and expose the crackle underneath. Leaving the top fairly flat would expose as much of the bark as possible but would not be as comfortable in the hand. Any advice you can give me would be greatly appraciated.
Thanks
Steve

Just my 2 cents, I would shape it out and make its a comfortable handle, leaving as much as possible of the bark color etc. Its gona be more subtle by doing this, yet make a functional comfortable tool, as well as have some of the awesome bark exposed on the top of the handle. :)
