Great little community you guys have here! I am delving into the knife making world a little step at a time. I first cut a blank from mild steel and turned into a knife shaped object just to learn the process. My second run is my current work in progress. I am making it out of a Nicholson Black Diamond File. I just ordered some 1095 18"x2" 3/16" stock from Jantz yesterday. Once it gets in I will transfer some ideas I have put on paper onto steel.
