Bocote Drop Point

Just wanted to share the fruit of today's labor. I profiled this a while ago bud hadn't had time to heat treat, grind and handle until today. Oddly enough, this is also the knife for which I made my first pocket type sheath. The leather is horrible, oil tanned I think, and a bit too soft but it was the only scrap I had laying around. I've some leather on order and will be attempting a nice tooled sheath for number two.

Steel: O1
Handle Material: Bocote
Pins: 3/16 Brass
Finish: 400 Grit Hand Finish
Grind: Full Flat

looks good bocote wood is one of my favs to work with, and the stuff you have looks really nice. nice job.

Funny thing with Bocote, at least for me, is that I'm never that taken with it when it's in the slab state. But once I see it on a knife, then I'm crazy about it. One of my favorite woods to work with also.

BTW, Mike, love that knife! Flows well and looks really comfy to use!

Thanks for your kind words Don, the knife did turn out quite comfortable in the hand. As for bocote, I have yet to like the look of it when its sitting on the bench as a 6x6x18 chunk of sneeze inducing fury but once its slabbed, book matched and roughed out, it grows on me. I've had pieces sitting in the shop for years that looked like pure crapola and turned out surprisingly beautiful.
