Good eye Rudy. Martin, that is not a burl, its got figure but does not have any of the grain patterns common to burl.

Martin with this type of wood they refer to the grain pattern as "landscaped"....you can see a good example of that in the pictures of your end grain above where the sections look like they are overlapping. It's beautiful wood, one of my favorites.....Larry

Wow, not burl!!! Learn some thing every time I log on!!! Is it expensive? The two tone color, does the the lighter color work well with the darker color when sanded and shaped into blanks? I have a smaller piece that is solid dark in color that I am making into scales right now for a small knife I made. I LOVE the look of it and would like to get more of it down the road.

Not that expensive, Compared to Ironwood etc.. About $3-$8 a set of scales at most supple houses, It may have gone up some? Been a few since I bought any and with all the B.S. about woods in the news lately.
