Thanks for the reply, had a feeling that was the case. I don't have a surface grinder, yet.... but I went ahead and profiled the blade and flattened it on a 12" disk sander. I guess the sides probably aren't 100% parallel, but it's reasonably flat now. Since this one is going to be a hunter/skinner, it will be ok as is, just wasn't expecting the stock to require that much flattening. This will be knife #5, learn something new on every one.

I've been ordering from Alpha in 12 to 13" lengths and the pieces are sheared, but not that bad. Just a bit of touching up on flat platen seems to be all that's needed. I've never had any that were anything like 1/8" out - but again, I've not ordered any 24" stock either. I'll bet that piece wasn't normal.
