D7 Moose Hunter

Ausbrooks

KNIFE MAKER
Here is just finished basic hunter that it is first of batch of eight ground from D7 steel which basically wore out all my belts getting them to HT then had to stop and buy new set of Norax belts after HT as this steel is the hardest to grind and polish I ever used. The moose antler slabs were left close to natural form to keep the character. Sheath is kind of a hybrid design I made after the Savage sheaths which, I discovered, are worth every penny he charges for them! Thanks for looking

Handles-Moose antler, buffed and burnt to add color
Hdware-416 SS pins and tube
Sheath- 8-9oz leather hand sewn w. antler firesteel

Hehe, I was wondering about the D7, you satisfied my curiosity, Excellent work on both, bet that one will hold an edge!
Especially like the grind and the point, has a nice scalpel quality to it.

Ausbrooks , great looking blade , I have some D-7 I bought a while ago ,,, wow you said it !! some tough stuff to work . I tried forging it , real bummer get about 3-4 hits then back in fire . I guess I will give it a shot by grinding it . I t has almost the same make up as S-90 -V . good looking knife for sure ... Bubba

Thanks for the comments guys...

Bubba-san, I believe your forge story- the high carbon makes for great wear resistance but tough on tools- Norax were only belts that would stand up to it. Ceramics lasted about a minute.

The design on that looks supreme. Good point, plenty of belly. I can't comment enough on the fit and finish, very impressive knife!
