This might be hard to explain or solve here just looking at pictures but a lot of you guys here know a lot more about this stuff than I do.
I bought a fairly cheap disc sander, best I could afford, the problem is the disc wobbles like a fat guy leavin' a bar. As much as 1/4" which causes whatever I'm sanding to chatter badly. i have pulled it apart and the problem seems to be that the disc does not sit tight on the shaft even with the key in the slot. As you can see from the pics it is only really secured to the shaft by a small screw in the center of the shaft, which to me is not as solid as a set screw from the side and does not allow for any way to adjust the tilt of the disc so that it runs true and flat.
My ideas are either drill out the hole in the disc and put a tight fitting shim and set screw system. Or make up a smaller disc that sits behind the disc, fits over the shaft and keyway and will allow me to use the two small threaded hole in the disc to adjust the tilt so it runs true and flat.
Any ideas or thoughts are welcome as I can't really afford to replace it and I think modifying this one would still be cheaper than trying to build on from scratch.
