i just finished this dirk.i have been interested in knives thru new zealands breif history, and this type of thing is probably one of the stand out knife types ive come across.they carried them in a diagonal sheath on a 75mm belt, and where taught"grip the knife handle, small finger against the guard, bending the wrist so the that the blade was laid along the inner arm enabling warding off, cutting and stabbing movements".
mine is forged from a wiltshire file, mild steel hot blued fittings, and bone handle with a maori design.i dont think they had hamons but a bit of artistic license is ok i think.
cheers, casey
