I use an electric etcher with a stencil to put on my maker's mark. What's the best way to put a mark on an etched blade? I've got a couple of blades coming up with nice hamons, and will finish them out to 1500 or so and etch in ferric chloride to bring out the hamon. Do I need to put the mark on first before the FC etch, or will an electronic etch work properly on top of a FC etch?

Check out the tip from Bill Levengood on Ernie's site... it's toward the bottom http://www.erniesknives.com/knifemaker_stencil.html . He's talking about a damascus blade, but I don't see why it would be any different in your case.

Jason, if all you are doing is bring out the hamon you can just put your mark on after you etch and it should show up fine. It is harder to see on top of damsacus.
