First knife off the new grinder

Well, here is the first one built with the new Pheer 454 grinder. Took some getting used to. The grinder works like a swiss watch, smooth and quiet. If I ever get tired of making knives I think it could fly me to the moon. Cuts so much smoother and faster that my 1 X 30 that it got away from me occasionally. Ended up with a blade that I was not completely happy with so I blued it, put it in a little plastic tub with some ceramic media, a handful of sharp volcanic gravel, a little water and a squirt of Dawn. Bounced it around in the dryer for about 30 minutes. Turned out OK I think. Blade is 4 7/8" from the handle. Handle is 4". Wood is Spalted Mango. Let me know what you think.

Cool Knife! I like the tumbled finish on the blade and I always like spalted wood. Nice job!

Looks good to me, I like the finish and the wood is great. I always end up with a blade I'm not completely happy with! That's why I'm getting Popeye forearms from all the hand sanding!

I agree with Anthony, for some reason I never am happy with my blades, guess I'm my own biggest critic. But back to the topic, that is a very nice look, good work.

Nice! I'm happy for you. I wish I could get a new grinder. It's hell working with a 1x30, and a 1x42. I learned today that I'm very limited with what I can do. I ended up killing a knife I've been working on.

Guys, thanks for all the kind comments. I kinda felt like the blue job and tumble finish was a cop-out but it was either that or put it in the trash. Now, at least I have a new shop knife but that one will never leave the shop.

Very nicely done. I'm not sure how I feel about the steel finish but the profiling and the plunge lines are spot on and the handle is really nice looking. Distressed finishes on blades just aren't my thing. Just a matter of taste.

That's a damn nice shop knife. I think we all are harder on ourselves than the general public viewing our work would be. That's what drives our innovation and craftsmanship.
When the product doesn't match the concept in our heads it can be frustrating but that's how we develop our craft.
Glad you got your new grinder! Keep it up, can't wait to see number 2 and 3 when you get a better feel for it.
