I guess a more specific question would have been best. Brands aside, I'd like a recommendation on file types, ie, Multi Cut, Double cut, smooth... Kind of like a belt grit progression.

Nicholson files especially the black diamond are among the best if not the best. There are a couple of others that have fair quality similar to Nicholson. Here is a piece on the history of the Nicholson file company!

Nicholson has continued over the years to hold the standard for the file in my opinion! In the last few years a line of Nicholson's have came out that are on the cheaper end of that spectrum however.
