fluidized bed furnace

I had called Aldo about some steel and we began chatting about this and that. In the chat he mentions wanting to build a fluidiezed bed furnace that uses Aluminum oxide powder as the media instead of molten salt. He said the furnace is built the same way as a salt pot is but he believes it reduces the hazards associated with a conventional pot.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of system in their shop. Aldo say Peters uses this system to heat treat the carbon steel blades.

Pros or cons?
 
First I have heard of this. What temperature range as we talking about?
 
Tracy I am not certain but Aldo said 1600. He said that argon or nitrogen is pumped from underneath the pot so as to purge the O2 and that the AO appears to be molten but its not. Once things settle down at his place he is hoping to build a small unit in his knife shop. I am pretty sure Kevin and others would know more.
 
I just talked to him earlier today. I will ask him about it next week when I talk to him again.
