Fluted Dagger and stand

Here is a fluted dagger I just finished with a Geod rock with black Walnut for the stand. My damascus, nickel silver fittings, and pre-ban elephant ivory. Blade length is 6 1/8 inches and overall length is 10 1/2 inches. Blade is 1/4 inch thick at guard with distal taper to tip. These I love to make.

When drilling ivory, there is a trick I learned. Only use fresh sharp bits and only go in a 1/4 inch and pull the bit out and clean it. Ivory shavings inside will expand and that will cause it to split but when you keep the bit clean, it wont split. Just 1/4inch pull out clean and repeat. I usually do it in the lathe but drill press and even by hand it will work. Thanks for your comments.
