lets make a little knife.

Tool and forge ready.

start with a piece of 1075/80

I like to start with a preform tip for convenience.

into the forge.

Forging out the tang.

decided to make a scale tang.

onto the bevels.

a little straightening.

mostly done just need to clean up the profile some.

On the 1X30

ready for HT.

good start. When I first saw the post, I thought, wow, the Chinese Demon has taken up knifemaking! This is gonna be wicked.

looks like you are off to a good start. I gotta get back to mine and make the handle. And polish, and polish, and polish... I went for a hamon.

the good thing Kevin is that i really dont grind:1:, but i have caught my beard on fire once when i was checking the blade for straightness, smelled horrible.:lol:

Craig: The forge started out as an old freon canister i picked up at one of the local salvage yards. I cut holes in the top and bottom and then Stormcrow welded up a frame around it to hold the venturi and allow for adjustment. The inside is 2"kaowool with a piece of kiln shelving inside to give a flat bottom. Then the whole thing is slathered with satanite. The only thing i would change in the design would be to use a thicker walled forge to make welding the frame easier. But overall it's a nice little forge.
