Ghetto Forging Tad's Blade

Here is a blade I forged to look similar to Tad's awesome knife. Yes, I asked Tad's permission to have a go at it;)
And a few others I forged out as well. The Larger ones are Aldo's 1084, The smaller ones are Aldo's 01. Thinner stock but I really liked working with the 01!!

Hey Ricky, They don't look bad although you need to work on getting your tangs in the center of the blade. Check over at Off Beat Forge. Pretty sure there's a thread there on Godzilla. Its one tool that can make things much easier. Are you having fun with the forging? I'm thinking your are.......

Thanks guys!

Yep Ray, Havin fun forging for sure! I'll hahe a look at "Godzilla" At one point I had the tang a bit lower when I was drawing it out but?.....huh1

Ricky, Are you forging the tang first or are you forging the blade first and then the tang? I always start forging the tang first and then the blade. As far as adjusting the tangs you already have if you had a Godzilla that would not be a problem. This is one tool that is very simple to make and it will save you a lot less frustration. Nice thing about a forged blade you can always go back and make corrections. Here's that Godzilla thread: http://knifedogs.com/showthread.php?p=32748&posted=1#post32748

Ray, Yes, blade first. I like when the steel is long so no tongs are necessary therefor I start from the tip back.
I read the entire Godzilla thread, Thanks2thumbs

I believe I have a thread on tongs to. Need to check that out to. There's another forging project I started yesterday towards the bottom of this thread: http://knifedogs.com/showthread.php?t=3180&page=3 Not sure if you had seen it or not.

What your doing now with the hammer shows that you are coming along. Don't get frustrated. Each time you forge try and improve on what you did the time before. Don't expect perfection right away. Got to remember I've been hand forging for 15 years now and not all the blades I forge turn into knives. Also don't set a time limit on what your forging.
