i have been wondering how to line the inside of my forge body. do i need to glue the kowal blankets to the steel pipe that that i am using as a frame . i have heard of using water glass or 3000 deg mourter. help

No, just place it in the forge, then it is best to cast over it with a castable refractory (Kast-0-Lite) then paint over that with an Infrared Reflective product (Plistix or Metrikote). You might want to read my tutorial at [h=3]Build A Gas Forge[/h]
Let me know if I can help you further.

Kaowool coated with Itc 100 will reflect the most heat. Almost any cast refractory will absorb, rather than reflect heat. it's best to have the most reflective surface closest to the surface of the forge. Cast refractory by itself, while having a longer forge life, will take longer to heat and will hold the heat, but will use more fuel. if the forge is to be used/abused all day, then cast is the way to go.
