I guess there's only way to find out. Those white lines in my billets caused by flux contamination are gone now. I haven't tried a feather w/o flux but will do so soon ...and hold my breath.

I actually don't think this this is a big deal as it's simply a matter of welding 2 pieces of clean steel together w/o flux .Not there yet as time permits but will post success/failure pics.

I watched Steve Culver do a weld dry in Topeka last year.

Mill scale was not removed, weld was solid as you could ask for.
