A friend, who is the sales manager of a steel company here in the NW, was looking at some of my damascus blades and asked what the shiny material was. After explaining my dilemma of finding a consistent supply of L6, he said that was no problem, and gave me a name and number of a saw mill, and the foreman, about an hr away.
I called and was told to come by, which I did on Wed. Their scrap bin was full of used blades, some cut up and some wound and wired. I did some serious dumpster diving and came home with a beeg smile on my face. The gentleman I dealt with asked for my card and said he'd be happy to save the blades for me as they just went for scrap.
You can bet he is going to get a nice blade or two. I'm still smiling and pumped.
