Great Host!!!

Good morning all - Not sure this is the place to sing the praises of a great host/teacher to this newbie. BUT, Rex of "McClellan Made Blades" is such a great host and teacher I wished to share with the group what a nice guy he is. He's got a really nice 'n friendly family. His wife Tina even fixed a meal for us.

I spent the day with Rex at his shop in Deatsville yesterday and really enjoyed my visit and learned a good bit. We had planned to build a knife, but with all the "war stories" we swapped, and his explaining to me how many of his tools work - we didn't get much forging done. Rex was able to demonstrate some of his forging technique, and that tire hammer he's got - now, THAT is a nice way to draw metal bar! Much better than swinging a 3 lb hammer.

Woods, burls - WOW!!! Rex has got some really nice stuff and I was able to take away a couple of VERY nice pieces of burl. THANK YOU Rex!!

With Rex's permission - I will be back again!

P.S. Thank you again Rex

Its always nice to hear that someone is helpful and willing to teach. I love hearing about people like Rex. I am only a year into knife making and I invite all my friends over to make knives. I offer the materials, my (limited) knowledge, tools, and bbq when someone wants to make a knife. I cant find anyone to help near me so I am starting the trend to get more knife makers in my area. But this site has been the best thing I have found. Thanks Rex and all the others like him out there.

I love this stuff. It's great to hear the wonderful stories about the selflessness of knifemakers.
What a family we have!

Rex is a fine gentleman. He is a talented knifemaker and has a heart of gold. I count it a blessing to call him friend.

Cal - from your comment I can tell you actually know Rex. You're right, he's a GREAT guy and is very knowledgeable. He's got some of the best hamons on knifes I've ever seen - Rex is GOOD at those hamons.

Rex provided me steel and handle material - the wife really LOVES that White Teak Burl. I used that for handles on the paring knife I just finished from Aldo's 52100 steel using stock removal method.

Thank you all for the help I've received from this forum - I've really learned a LOT over the last few months.
