grinder motor question

Ok guys, I've scored a 2hp 3 phase motor for free. The problem is that the shaft is 24mm, should I use it and bore my drive wheel out or just get a motor with a 5/8 shaft? Thanks

Mack,
I can think of a couple other options. 1)Have the motor shaft turned down to 5/8. 2) Put the drive wheel on a shaft drive the shaft using a belt. Just need pulleys to match the different shaft sizes. My KMG uses a belt with 1:1 pulleys, but depends on how you design the rest of the grinder.

You can get drive wheels for about $50 on eBay, so if you bored it out 24mm that would be cheapest route. You would lose the keyway though. Guess you could hand file a key slot if you don't have a broach set. You could just put half a key in and tighten it down, probably be fine. A machine shop would turn down the motor shaft and cut a new keyway, but that wouldn't be cheap, you could buy another motor cheaper than that. Some of the eBay sellers will make custom drive wheels for a few $ extra, just ask.
