KNIFE MAKER
I made a start on some of the orders yesterday and got them cut out, profiled and prepped so today I got the bevels ground in. I had a couple of the little field scalpels already heat treated and hand sanded in the drawer so that will save a little time. From the left is a round butt boner, bushcraft hunter, thumbrest sknner, standard skinner, two hunter skinners, wapiti hunter, general purpose, two JT Rangers, pig sticker and two bowies with one being a horseshoe rasp and the other from 1075. This will be the last rasp bowie I do and will do all ruture ones from 1075. I have heard that the newer rasps are only surface hardened so dont harden properly.

Thanks Kevin but when the time is spent on simple designs without any complicating embellishments, and in particular when doing batches, there is a rythem that sets in and seems to help things along. Having said that though the cut out and bevel grind is the easy part and now the handsanding before and after heat treat is where determination and simple plodding along comes into the process.

Thanks Ric. Unlike many who post on youtube I havent stuck to one subject but things in general that I think may be helpfull or of interest to someone else. I want to do a start to finish on how I do my knives at some stage but need to find out how to post numerous videos on the one upload so I dont have 15 or more 2 minute videos

It helps to have a young kid around they know all about those things.My stepson does mine.

your version of the lion knife is absolutely elegant! It actually took a while to grow on me(from like to love...lol) but the lines are so perfect and the build is simple...that's an honest knife there.

Thanks Ted. For a knife that is intended as a penetrating knife I was in two minds as to having no finger guard but the shape of the handle seems to make than unnessary. It tapers from the back to the front in plan view and from the front to the back in profile. Designed by the Shefield cuttlers pre 1850 some time it has certainly proved itself in application over the years and like you I have come to apreciate it for its simple elegance as well as its historic importance and the regard with which it is held in the Africa hunting fraternity.
