Hamon Bowie- 1075 and Curly Koa...

Here's one I just finished for a very patient collector. :) A mid sized bowie with a slim and fast feel in hand. Materials were all to his specs. I like the handle shape here. Nothing drastic, a lot of subtle curves but feels great in hand.

My good friend Claude Scott hit it out of the park yet again with the leather. Thanks Claude!

Specs:
Hand forged from 1075 steel
8 5/8" blade, 14" overall, .220" at the ricasso with full radical distal taper
False edge just shy of sharp
Rounded spine and ricasso edge
My own damascus fittings
Bronze 'thorn and vine' spacer
Stabilized Curly Koa handle

All comments and discussion welcome.

John that is another outstanding piece. You make that koa look unbelievable!
What's the little double notch on the choil? Is that to replicate the curves on the guard

Absolutely beautiful knife. I know I sound like a broken record but you make really nice knives and I enjoy opening your new threads.

^ same here.

I notice that the really high end, high level makers seem focused on bowies. Is that what sells the best to collectors, or is that just what we see a lot of here on KD?

Sweet I like the style, bolsters, well I like the knife. Ed

Thanks Ed. Much appreciated!

Yeah, that's kind of what I was shooting for. Something to make it look a little more pointy and sinister. :) I finish the koa like we talked about on the phone that day. It works really well for me. Thanks Justin.

Broken record or not, I appreciate the time you guys take to view my threads and post your thoughts. Thanks DeMo.

Thanks for the comments John. I can't speak for the high end guys but I think that a lot of the serious collectors of fixed blades are into bowies and fighters more than anything. I know, for me, they're a lot of fun to forge and to finish and to hold in hand. It seems like most everyone likes a big knife. :)
