Home-made grinder question

Ive seen a couple of videos on YouTube of these home made grinders using "repurposed" treadmill parts... and looking around it seems like a great way to get a 2-2.5 HP Variable speed motor for under $200 (I found one on Craigslist for $100 that was a 2.5hp, with a nice slider for speed control).

My question is... is there any problem you can think of with using this type of motor/control setup? It just seems too good to be true :)

You do have to watch how it's powered.
I believe a motor that rated for 2hp on 220v will deliver 1 1/2hp on household 115v which is how my Hardcore Grinder Baldor motor works.

You need to talk with someone that really knows motors to tell you how how much you will real get ?? But i've used those treadmill motors on my disc grinder etc and they work fine.
