Homemade etcher voltage ?

I have always used a power supply out of an old computer to do my etching.I have also never used a stencil.I should be receiving my stencils from Ernie Grospitch, this week.
My question is.What should the voltage on the etcher be ?The power supply has about 3 sets of wires with different voltage,I don't remember what the voltage is,I need a battery for my volt meter, which I will get tomorrow and check it.
Thanks for any help.
God bless,Keith

Not sure if this is any help, but my personalizer runs off of a 12 volt transformer and the personalizer plus runs off an 18 volt transformer.
I've seen other etchers with as high as 24 volt ones, but no higher than that.

I have made 2 etchers. One uses a 12 & 24 volt transformer, the other a Variac. 12 volts works fine. If I run higher than that it burns up the stencils way way faster.

I use the voltage reducer from a printer 24 volt 400 MA now and it puts a good looking etch on something fast....
I was using a old cell phone charger for a long time with salt water and it did ok i guess...

With the electorlyte sc-e1 and 24 volts you can put on a nice etch and I dont have any problem burning up stencils...
