Hunters in 1084 and mesquite

Here's a little batch I forged out recently. The steel on these is 3/16" 1084 plain high carbon steel, with mesquite for the handles and brass pins and lanyard tubes. The blades are triple normalized, single hardened in canola, and triple tempered. The leather is by a local sheathmaker.

The three little ones have 5 1/4" blades. Their sheaths are ambidextrous:

The big one has a 6 1/4" blade. The sheath is a also ambidextrous, with tri-weave stamping.

Thank y'all! I checked my stats on my website and found these and some of my other work being discussed on an Eye-talian knife forum. Perty cool! :)

I have a question I saw ur post on the devil tongue balsong n I wanted to know how u do ur markers mark??

Guindesigns - The guy with the balisong is a French maker. We have a similar touchmark, but they aren't the same. Mine is hot stamped in after basic forging and before straightening.

Great knives! Nice leather work too! I love using mesquite. I think it makes a fine looking handle. There's plenty of it so I don't feel guilty using it but its still unusual enough to be special.

These are some of the first slab handles I did. I actually had my epoxy go bad right as I was doing these, never setting up all the way and leaking out. I tossed these in storage for about a year. Then our church got a new preacher who is a hunter and likes knives, who wanted these for himself and his two sons. I took the slabs off, made new mesquite handles for 'em, got them back together, built some Kydex for them, and they're in his possession now. He's already making plans for getting bush swords for next Christmas. :D

I hate mesquite trees and have done my part to try to eradicate them from Texas, but it sure does make good barbecue and pretty knife handles and furniture.
